Many people have the inner inkling that they meant to do something bigger, something more aligned with who they are, something more fulfilling than the work they do today.
Some have taken the step to question themselves, and a few actually take the courageous step to stop the cycle (take a long break, say “No” to a promotion, go on a silent meditation retreat), so that they can have the mind space and heart space to discover what is hidden.
Often times, what’s hidden has been pushed down so deep, covered up with so many “I should’s”; it is hard to let the true calling surface. I am on a similar path of discovery, and it is not easy to know which direction leads to my true north.
An unexpected insight arose today with this quote:
“When a flower doesn’t bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.” ~ Alexander Den Heijer.
We are so much a product of our environment. If I am looking to discover my path, which is different from the path I had walked, I will be more successful if I create the environment that promotes my higher self to show up.
“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” ~ John Rohn.
A big part of creating the right environment is creating the right circle of people to be around. Which brings me to Facebook.
My Facebook News Feed looked quite different a year ago compared to that today.
In the past, the News Feed was populated with food pictures, baby pictures, vacation pictures, pictures of new “toys,” and glamour shots, which honestly, doesn’t particularly inspire me.
Today, the News Feed is still populated with some of the same, but more postings features content that inspires. Inspirational quotes, links to support a cause, news articles of people and organizations making the world a better place, and articles related to how to lead, live, and thrive.
This change in News Feed content is an indication that I am heading in the right direction. I am surrounding myself with people who can shift my environment towards a place where I can blossom.
Change happens through conversations – with oneself, and with others. If you are someone who wants to pursue your calling, take action to be with people who inspires you. Find your tribe and have conversations with them. They will fill your tank with the fuel you need to find your true north.
